Mayor LaPointe’s realistic comments re: LGBTQ+ “militancy” (July 10) has drawn the displeasure of that community. What he said was accurate; and he did reasonably affirm that Hallowell is flourishing in its current balance.
But apparently his public apology wasn’t enough to smooth their ruffled feathers. Would a public hanging-in-effigy of Mayor LaPointe be sufficient for this crowd? I doubt it, because nothing is ever enough, is it? So consequently, it’s far more effective for them to play the “victim” card.
It’s good, therefore, to remind the Hallowell Pride Alliance that “diversity” flows both ways. Diverse people — good and caring citizens — are also entitled to voice their opinions without name-calling being hurled in their direction.
