CHINA — Two people were injured and taken to hospitals Saturday morning when the motorcycle they were riding hit a deer on Pleasant View Ridge Road in China.
The motorcycle was northbound at about 10 a.m. when it hit a deer in the road, causing the operator to lay down the motorcycle, according to a report from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
Roy Garland of Waterboro was operating the motorcycle with a female passenger, whose name was not available Monday. Neither was wearing a helmet, according to the report, which also included that the woman suffered a broken bone and Garland sustained bruising.
Chief Joel Nelson of the China Village Fire Department said Monday the crash occurred near 816 Pleasant View Ridge Road, and the female passenger was taken by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Garland was taken to MaineGeneral Health’s Alfond Center for Health in Augusta, according to Nelson.
The China Village Fire Department responded to the crash, while the South China Fire Department set the landing for the LifeFlight of Maine helicopter on Parmenter Hill Road, Nelson said.
