SOMERVILLE — The Pumpkin Vine Family Farm plans to crown the Dairy Queen herd between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the farm at 217 Hewett Road.

In some places, she’s a human, but at the farm, the goats steal the show. Each year the Roopchand family selects its top 10 goats from among their hardworking, high-spirited, and undeniably beautiful herd. One can vote for their favorite Dairy Princess from this year’s crop of baby goats, according to a news release from Kelly Payson-Roopchand of the family farm.

The special “Goature” fashion team have hand-sewn outfits for the goats’ big day, and winning goats will receive handcrafted flower crowns.

The day’s schedule:
11 a.m.-noon:

Vote for a Dairy Princess between 11 a.m. and noon and make a willow crown and ribbon wand.

The Parade of Bells will begin at noon to welcome the goats as they descend from their hill pastures.

The crowning of top 10 Dairy Queens is set for 12:30 p.m. and the presentation of the 2024 Princess will take pace at 1 p.m.

There will be photo opportunities with all the winners afterwards, so bring a camera.

This is a weather-dependent event. The rain date is Aug. 18; check the farm’s website and social media on the day of if there is a chance of rain.
