MANCHESTER — A GriefShare support group is set to begin on Friday, Sept. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hope Baptist Church, 726 Western Ave.
A session about loss of spouses will take place at 6 p.m Friday, Aug. 23.
A GriefShare group is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions of grief. At this 13-week support group program, participants can discover what to expect in the days ahead and what’s “normal” in grief. Since there are no neat, orderly stages of grief, they will learn helpful ways of coping with grief, in all its unpredictability — and gain solid support each step of the way.
At each weekly meeting, people will view a video featuring counselors, pastors, and healthcare professionals on grief-related topics, and they’ll hear relatable personal stories of grief. After that is a small-group discussion to allow people time to talk, share support, and personally apply what they learned on the video. Everyone will receive a book to take home filled with exercises for navigating their personal grieving process.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
