Alfred “Coach Willie” Wilson

SKOWHEGAN – Alfred “Coach Willie” Wilson, 64, passed away on Saturday July 27, 2024. He was born Nov. 12, 1959, in Skowhegan, the son of Ronald C. and Marjorie (Cornforth) Wilson. Al graduated from Skowhegan in the class of 1978 and has kept deep roots in the school’s athletic program as well as in the community. Al began his coaching career in 1978 with Skowhegan as the Assistant Freshman Football Coach and held numerous other coaching positions throughout the years such as Assistant and Head Wrestling Coach, Assistant Varsity Coach, and Head Freshman Football Coach. He also led and participated in a vast number of summer leagues and softball teams.

In 1992, Al begins his career at Hight Chevrolet where he held the role of transportation supervisor. This was the beginning of a lifelong bond with the Hight family, not only professionally but personally as well. Willie was the guy you wanted to be around; the guy that would make you laugh, lift your spirits, and for many, rally for the win. He inspired greatness and mentored many. Al left a mark in people’s heart and in the community that will never be forgotten.

He was predeceased by his father Ronald Wilson Sr., and siblings Ronald Wilson Jr. and Rhonda (Wilson) Miller.

Al is survived by his mother Marjorie Wilson; sister Robin Wilson; sister-in-law Lorri Wilson; nephews, Cameron Wilson, Sean Wilson, and Brady Wilson; great-nephew Aiden Wilson; as well as his sports family, his work family, and many lifelong friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4 p.m., Saturday Aug. 24, 2024, in the Constitution Hall at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds.
