Jacquita “Jackie” Gordon
NEW PORTLAND – Jacquita “Jackie” Gordon, 97, of New Portland, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024.
Jacquita was born in Lexington, the daughter of Alma Durrell and Albert Handrahan. She graduated from Central High School in 1945 and went on to work as a mill laborer at the New Portland Stricklands Mill.
When Jackie wasn’t busy going on long drives, or out to lunch, she liked to spend her free time doing crossword puzzles, but her favorite activities always included the company of her friends and family, especially dancing the night away at Smitty’s in Madison.
Jackie was predeceased by her parents Alma and Albert Handrahan; her loving husband, Edwin Gordon; her five siblings; one grandson.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Hutchins and her husband Joe of New Portland, Cheryl Browne of New Portland, and Glennis Sawyer of New Portland; her sister-in-law, Muriel Handrahan of New Portland; her grandchildren Tiffany Smith and her significant other Mark McLaughlin of New Portland, Brent Smith and wife Kate of New Portland, Lisa Emery and her husband Richard of New Portland, Shawn Browne and his wife Lynn of North Anson, Wade Browne and his wife Wanda of Kingfield, and Kyle Sawyer of New Portland; as well as her six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice for all their care. No services will be held per Jackie’s wishes.
