The talk will feature Winthrop Center Road, South Road and Narrows Pond Road historic apple orchards. It also will feature apples such as the Longfellow Cathead, The Longfellow Russett, The Moses Wood and The Fairbanks.

Wilkins continues to dig and research the vast and rich history of Winthrop apples and orchards, as well as trying to solve a few mysteries of forgotten orchardists and where they planted and farmed long ago, according to a news release from Mary Richards, WMHS co-chair PR Committee.

The event will begin with the second annual apple pie bake-off starting at 5 p.m. The bake-off will take place outside of the center before Wilkins’ talk.

People can bring a favorite apple pie to the center at 4:30 p.m. for judging by a panel. Sharing one’s recipe is optional.

For those who opt for a Zoom option, email the society to have the link sent. The recording will be available on the Society’s YouTube Channel at Winthrop Maine Historical Society.

In the event of inclement weather, the bake off will be canceled. To RSVP or for more information, call the center at 207-395-5199 or email winthropmainehistorical@gmail.com.
