Dawna J. Campbell

MADISON – Dawna J. Campbell sadly passed away suddenly of natural causes on August 29, 2024. Born in Bangor, on Feb. 12, 1948, Dawna was the daughter of Earl Johnson and June (Higgins) Johnson.

Dawna grew up in Bangor with her parents and two sisters, Elizabeth (Robinson) and Sheila (Durland). In 1962 Dawna met David Campbell at a local Texaco Station where David worked. They were engaged on Christmas Day in 1965. Dawna married the love of her life, David, on Dec. 21, 1966. After David’s honorable discharge from the Army after he was in Vietnam, the couple moved to Maine where David began his teaching career in 1969. They lived in Madison for the rest of their lives.

Dawna was a sweetheart who was quick to smile and would always lend a listening ear. Many of her daughters’ friends would sit and talk with her for hours offering empathy and wisdom. She always had a positive attitude and outlook.

Dawna loved her family. She loved to snowmobile with David and friends, crafting, sewing, painting, going to meetings with her Madison Riparian Homemakers ladies, watching movies (sometimes repeatedly), going out to the movies and dinner with her girls (and maybe a margarita or two. She spent many years volunteering for the Abnaki Sno-Riders helping to make turkey pies.

She will be remembered for many things including her smile, laughter, caring nature, and her big heart. Dawna was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, but the title she loved most was Grammie.

Dawna was predeceased by her husband David; her parents; and older sister, Shelia Durland. Dawna is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Robinson; her daughter, LeeAnne Newton and her husband Shawn, her daughter Catherine Cloutier; and her grandsons, Logan Cloutier, Ayden Cloutier, and Jackson Newton. She also loved her granddaughters, Saré, Javyn, and Addison.

Dawna also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends and some very special people she considered family.

The burial will take place on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, at noon at the niche wall in the old cemetery at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Avenue, Augusta. A celebration of Dawna’s life is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 164 Water Street, Skowhegan.
