PORTLAND — Thomas College cybersecurity professor Dr. Frank Appunn is teaming up with area professionals to host the SecureMaine Conference, organized by the nonprofit SecureMaine, on Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland.
The full-day conference, in its second year, will feature presentations and panel sessions covering the latest priorities in information and infrastructure security. Presenters will include national experts, leaders from federal agencies, significant organizations, technologists, lawyers, consultants, strategists, and policy makers at national and local levels.
The conference is a collaboration between five inaugural nonprofit professional bodies, including: IAPP – International Association of Privacy Professionals, InfraGard Maine, ISACA New England, (ISC)2 Maine, and MTUG – Maine Technology Users Group.
The event will satisfy continuing education credits for related topics.
Appunn, who initiated the event, has been a professor of cybersecurity and project management at Thomas College in Waterville for more than a decade.
The conference, held at the Italian Heritage Center, 40 Westland Ave., Portland, will provide refreshments, lunch and parking, which are all included in the attendance fee. Registration can be completed securemaine.org.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
