FARMINGTON – Stephen James “Steve” Salisbury, 82, of Farmington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024, after a five-year journey through Alzheimer’s disease. He was a loving husband to Dorothy Salisbury of Farmington for the past 20 years.
Steve was born on July 21, 1942, in Lewiston, Maine. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Teresa Salisbury of Mount Desert Island and Bucksport, Maine. He graduated from Bucksport High School in 1960 and later from SMVTI in South Portland. After school, he worked for many years at Kmart before transitioning into a career as a mason.
Dorothy and Steve attended high school together in Bucksport and reconnected at their high school reunion in 2000. They married in 2004 and shared many wonderful adventures, including a memorable trip out West to the National Parks, camping along the way. Steve had a passion for old cars, model cars, and history. He and Dorothy enjoyed attending antique car shows together. They also adored their dog Sparky who Steve loved to take for walks.
Steve is survived by his son, Jason Salisbury of Colorado; his stepchildren, Shawn and Charlene McGraw of Farmington, Todd and Barbara McGraw of Oakland, and Robyn and Steve Carson of Connecticut. He is also survived by his sisters, Beverly Thatcher of Florida and Sandra Clark of New York State, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Dotty Salisbury of Livermore Falls.
He leaves behind many nieces and nephews: Stephanie Johnson, David and Brian Salisbury of Maine; Steve Clark of New York; and Allen, Harold, and Alyssa Quay of Florida. Steve also had several aunts, uncles, and cousins in Maine.
Steve cherished his grandchildren and always looked forward to holidays and their visits. His grandchildren include Sierra and Shane Baker of New Vineyard, Brannen and Heather McGraw of Auburn, and great-grandchildren Riley and Bowden, John and Chelsea Morrison of Auburn, Miles Brooks of Biddeford, Chandler Brooks of Scarborough, and Taylor McGraw of Sheepscot.
Steve was deeply appreciative of the staff at Woodlands Memory Care, where he lived for nearly two years. He was known for his desire to help the staff by “moving things around” and always giving them a good laugh. His family extends special thanks to the Woodlands staff for the compassionate and attentive care they provided.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Steve on Friday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church, 268 Perham Street, Farmington. Following services. a comfort reception will be held at the Church.
