Lucille C. Poulin

AUGUSTA – Lucille C. Poulin, 86, died on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Lucille was born in Augusta, on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1937, to the late Irenee “Rudy” and Adrienne (Dupuis) Castonguay. She was the second oldest of eight children.

Lucille graduated from St. Augustine School in 1952 and Cony High School in 1956. She married Raymond Poulin on Sept. 3, 1956, and together they settled on Franklin Street, their home for the next 68 years. Following high school, she was employed by Depositor’s Trust Co. in Augusta for three years in various areas of the banking business. She then became a full-time stay-at-home mom raising her three children during which time she took great pride in serving diligently prepared and nourishing meals at regular family mealtimes together. She is also remembered for her delicious desserts that awaited her kids coming home from school.

After her family was raised, Lucille went back to work for General Adjustment Bureau resuming office work, the course of study she prepared for in high school. Later in life, she accepted a post as a crossing guard for three years; a job she loved because of her interaction with children. She carried a bag of hats and mittens with her in the winter months to distribute to the kids in need and was especially touched by one child who asked for a second set to bring home to a sibling. Lucille was truly a role model for thoughtfulness.

Lucille was a lifelong communicant of St. Michael’s Parish and a lifelong member of the former Ladies of St. Anne. She belonged to the Cushnoc Senior Group and volunteered to call Bingo at their weekly meetings. She was a member of the Le Club Calumet; excited to join when membership was opened to women. She also enjoyed playing board and card games throughout her life; a hobby she developed with her family growing up before the advent of television. Cribbage boards were a permanent fixture on the table and competitively enjoyed at every Castonguay family gathering. In her latter years, Lucille enjoyed taking many trips with her late husband, Raymond and their dear friends. She would also never refuse an invitation to go to the casino. Lucille can best be characterized as a people person, with a heart for thoughtfulness and generosity. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved having a good time – she genuinely exhibited a “joie de vivre.”

Lucille was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Raymond Poulin; her older sister, Jeannine Toulouse; and three of her younger brothers; Roger, Ronald and Michael Castonguay.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses: a daughter, Donna, and husband, Bob Emery; son, Norman Poulin, and wife, Jeanne; and daughter, Lisa, and husband, Al Brochu; her six grandchildren and their spouses: Nicole and Tavis Hasenfus, Andrew and Daniela Emery, Michael and Whitney Poulin, Nicholas Poulin, Alyssa and Sean Spillane and Arika and Ben Spencer; her six great-grandchildren: Gavia, Griffin, and Grafton Hasenfus, Masyn Spillane, William Spencer, and Baby Boy Emery on the way, all of whom were the highlights of her life – She was a wonderful Mom and Memere! And finally her siblings: a sister, Patricia Stover of Florida; a brother, Gerald Castonguay, and wife, Patty; and youngest brother, Paul Castonguay; brother-in-law Roger Toulouse as well as many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Poulin Family wishes to thank the warm and compassionate staff at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, Beacon Hospice Care and Courtney Goudreau for their significant support and care in her daily life.
