Auburn firefighters work to extricate an elderly man from his vehicle Saturday morning after it was involved in a head-on crash on Center Street in front of Bear’s Self-Storage in Auburn. Police arrested a Lewiston man Saturday morning on Center Street for causing a crash that seriously injured two and for fleeing the accident on foot, according to officials.
Daniel Bizimana, 22, was driving north around 10 a.m. in his 2007 Nissan Sentra when he crossed the centerline near 878 Center St., said Auburn police Sgt. Nathan Westleigh. Bizimana struck a 2014 Toyota RAV4 driven by Paul Duchette, 74, of Lewiston. Duchette and his female passenger were seriously injured, though injuries appeared non-life-threatening, Westleigh said. Bizimana fled on foot from officers at the scene, but was apprehended and charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and refusing to submit to arrest, Westleigh said.
