Lawrence William Brown

ROME – Lawrence William Brown “Larry”, 75, passed away on June 3, 2024, at the home he built with his own hands. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of Marjorie (Klein) Brown and Calvin Newton Brown. Larry graduated from Copley High School, in Copley Ohio, and Kent State University, where he earned a degree in Art and English Education. He was present when the student antiwar demonstrators were shot on campus at Kent State on May 4, 1970.

Larry married Margaret (Byerly) Brown, his high school sweetheart, and they were together for 47 years. He appreciated the beauty and quality of life in Maine and moved his family to Maine in 1990.

Larry worked for over 20 years managing the computer systems at Colby College’s Miller Library. After his retirement, he devoted his time to his art, serving on the Board of Directors of the Harlow Gallery and painting in his home studio. A lover of animals, he enjoyed and cherished the company of his many cats, Buddy, Franklin, Parker, Calvin, Watson, and many others over the years.

He is survived by his son, John Lawrence Brown, his wife Nicole, and their sons John Anthony and Alex, all of Gardiner; his daughter, Aimee Kaloyares, her husband Adam, and their daughters Anne, Alice, Audrey, and Addie May, all of Walker, La.; his daughter, Laura Beth Brown of Westbrook, who was his close companion and support in recent years; and his former wife, Margaret Brown of Rockland.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at a future date.
