SKOWHEGAN — An Augusta woman was arrested and a 16-year-old boy from New York was charged after leading police on a high-speed chase Tuesday that began with a report of a burglary in Skowhegan, police said.

Matisse Fry, 42, who fled police in her vehicle, was arrested on charges of burglary, criminal speed, eluding an officer, failure to submit to arrest or detention and violating condition of release, Chief David Bucknam of the Skowhegan Police Department wrote in a statement issued Tuesday evening.
The teenager, who was in the car with Fry, was charged with burglary, failure to submit to arrest or detention, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and terrorizing, Bucknam said.
The incident began at about 1:45 p.m., when Officer Richard Pierce and Cpl. Joshua York responded to a burglary in progress at 26 Pineview Ave. in Skowhegan, Bucknam said.
When the two officers responded to the home, they saw someone wearing a sweatshirt with the hood pulled up get into the passenger seat of a 2022 Nissan Rogue, according to Bucknam.
The SUV then sped off on Philbrick Drive, toward Canaan Road, also known as U.S. Route 2.
At the intersection with Canaan Road, Bucknam said the passenger jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a wooded area. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Fry, turned left and “accelerated to high speeds” east toward Canaan.
Police eventually stopped the SUV near Lake George Regional Park, which straddles the Skowhegan-Canaan line.
Fry refused to get out of the vehicle, but said there was a firearm on the passenger seat, according to Bucknam.
“After several attempts to have her exit, officers moved to the driver’s side door and assisted her from the vehicle,” Bucknam wrote in his statement.
On the passenger seat, police found a .357-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver with six rounds in its cylinder, and a ski mask, according to Bucknam.
Meanwhile, a deputy from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office who was traveling on U.S. Route 2 saw the 16-year-old boy who had jumped from the vehicle and detained him until Skowhegan police officers arrived, Bucknam said. The teenager’s identity was not released because of his age.
The police investigation into the incident involving the two “dangerous people” was ongoing Tuesday evening, according to Bucknam.
“It was a team effort that has brought this situation to a close with no injuries,” Bucknam said.
