GARDINER — Dozens of Gardiner Pack 672 Cub Scouts and their siblings and parents learned about the duties of a firefighter at the pack’s Oct. 29 meeting.
Gardiner Fire and Rescue Lt. Eric Davis attended the meeting in honor of National First Responders Day, Oct. 28. The day honors the men and women who act quickly when an emergency is at hand.
Davis, who is the father of Cubs India and Natalie Davis, spoke about fire safety, explained the equipment firefighters use, provided a tour of Ladder Truck #1, and spoke with the Cubs about what they should do in the event of a fire, according to a news release from Chuck Mahaleris, district chairman for the Kennebec Valley District of Scouting.
“This has become a much anticipated meeting in our Pack over the last couple years,” said Cubmaster Scott St. Amand of Pittston. “It’s a great opportunity to teach them about our first responders, and get them up close to check out the equipment and vehicles.” The explanation and hands-on encounter completed requirements for awards for the Cubs as well and it was a fun evening.
