Most Hannaford locations are accepting credit cards again, but the supermarket chain’s website and online ordering service were still down as of Monday afternoon.
Customers began reporting issues with certain locations’ ability to accept credit cards, online orders and fill prescriptions Wednesday.
“Our recovery efforts are still underway for the network issue,” spokesperson Caitlin Cortelyou said in a statement Friday. “We’re working diligently to resolve any remaining issues, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.” The company said no updates were available Monday.
Most pharmacies are processing prescriptions, Cortelyou said, urging customers to visit stores in person to fill any prescriptions. Some pharmacies are still unable to take phone calls, she said.
Scarborough resident John McMorrow said things seemed to be back up and running at that town’s store, including at its pharmacy. But he said his wife was unable to call about a prescription earlier Friday.
“She tried calling from the outside, and it’s been like a black hole that way,” McMorrow said as he walked through the parking lot around 5 p.m. Friday. “But right here, right now, there’s no glitch at all. I just used the self-serve (with) a credit card.”
Down Route 1, customers at the Saco Hannaford said they ran into trouble earlier in the week at other locations.
William Monagle said he was unable to log into his in-store rewards account, where he would normally access coupons, at midday Friday.
“I don’t know what caused it, but they seem to be back up and running now,” he said, leaving the Saco location that evening.
Hannaford’s Dutch parent company, Ahold Delhaize, said in a statement that its United States division detected a “cybersecurity issue within its U.S. network” and took some systems offline to protect them. The company did not provide details on the nature of the security issue or indicate when it might be resolved.
The issue also impacted other brands owned by Ahold Delhaize, the company said. Its portfolio includes supermarket chains Stop & Shop, Food Lion and Giant, all of which appeared to had working websites Friday and Saturday.
Hannaford’s website showed a blank page with the company’s logo and the words “Sorry! We’re having technical issues with our servers.” That message was still up at Saturday around noon.
Orders placed via Hannaford To Go and slated for pickup and delivery Friday were canceled, and the store notified impacted customers, Cortelyou said.
“Customers with canceled orders may continue to see a pending transaction on their bank account, which should clear within several days,” she said.
It was unclear exactly how many stores remained affected over the weekend; Hannaford spokesperson Erika Dodge said Saturday that there was no update on when service would be restored.
“We thank our associates for their continued commitment to serving our customers with care and compassion,” Cortelyou said in the Friday statement.
