CAMDEN — A 90-minute Bay Chamber workshop for intermediate ukulele players is set for 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 7, at Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School, 5 Mountain St.

The workshop offers clear steps toward a higher level of playing with a focus on skill building, technique and expression.

“My goal is to give people new tools and modes of thinking. The workshop will teach them to practice in a way that will lead to better music making,” said Jeff Weinberger, a faculty member in ukelele and guitar at Bay Chamber and leader of the workshop, according to a news release from the music school.

Participants will learn both the musical elements and attitudes needed to advance on the instrument, techniques that cannot be gained from merely reading about skills online or practicing without clear goals or a creative mindset, Weinberger said.

Workshop participants should know at least four chords and be able to change smoothly from one to another at a modest tempo. They should know how to tune the instrument and be able to play a simple song flawlessly all the way through.

Bay Chamber has a few ukeleles to loan out. Participants must inform Bay Chamber if they need one by Friday, Dec. 6. Class size is limited to 10 participants.

The cost is $20. To register and for more information, call 207-236-2823.
