VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Dassa Carvey, 80, passed away Nov. 20, 2024, at Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was born November 10, 1944, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the daughter of George and Ruth (Damon) Wentworth.

Dassa graduated from Skowhegan High School, class of 1962. After graduation, she served with the U.S. Navy as a journalist. After her military service, she joined the Civil Service as a clerk, eventually becoming a budget analyst, and retiring in 2006 as a GS-14.

During her service in the Navy, she met and married Gerald Carvey. They celebrated 58 years of marriage last February.

She joined and eventually served as President of MILWOMEN (formerly WAVES National). She went on to organize a local chapter called Military Women Across the Nation (formerly Tidewater Tidal WAVES) in 2002.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Gary Wentworth. Surviving in addition to her husband, Gerald Carvey, are her son Harlan Carvey and his wife Terri, her son Sean Carvey and his wife Keith, her daughter Gennifer Cairns and her husband John, her sisters Avis Grant and Eva Gray, three grandkids, seven great grandkids, and many nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.
