RICHMOND — An early morning fire during Wednesday’s storm destroyed a garage, but left a home standing, according to officials.
The house, located at 6 Myrtle St., is across the street from the Richmond Fire Station, said Richmond Fire Chief Stephen Caswell.
The fire started at 2:30 a.m. in the garage, which was a standalone structure next to the house.
It is unclear what started the fire at this time, but all pets and residents evacuated the home without harm.
Caswell said they struck a first alarm because of the home’s proximity to neighbors and then a second alarm to get more control over the fire.
The weather, which at the time was freezing rain, did delay response time a bit from assisting fire departments, he said.
“It was a very good outcome considering the weather,” Caswell said. “There were no injuries and no firefighter injuries with everything considered.”
The house is still standing, but the fire did damage to the side of the home. It’s not a total loss, but is uninhabitable at the moment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Office of State Fire Marshal.
Bowdoinham Fire Department, Woolwich Fire and Rescue, Dresden Fire Department, Gardiner Fire Department, Litchfield Fire Department, Wiscasset Ambulance Service and Sagadahoc County Emergency Management, responded to the fire.
