In a news release issued Thursday, Augusta police Chief Kevin Lully said Alexander Thang, 27, listed as a transient, was arrested on a charge of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs. At the time of the release, Thang was being held at the Kennebec County jail on $8,000 bail.

The Augusta Police Department’s log indicated that April Firth, 37, of Augusta, was arrested at 4:09 a.m. Thursday on Spring Street on charges of obstructing government administration and a probation violation.

Augusta police officers, accompanied by representatives from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Homeland Security and the Maine State Police executed the warrant at 4 a.m. Thursday at 23 Spring St.

Lully said an ongoing investigation into the illegal sale and distribution of illicit narcotics has been underway at that location.

Area residents said on social media Thursday that they heard what sounded like about a dozen gunshots at the time of the raid. Lully said Thursday evening that no firearms were discharged at any time as part of the operation.

During the search, officers seized an undisclosed quantity of contraband and narcotics.

Staff Sgt. Eric Lloyd of the Augusta Police Department had confirmed the Spring Street raid Thursday morning and said more information would be released later in the day.
