Raymond E. Duplessis

AUGUSTA – Raymond E. Duplessis, 95, passed away peacefully on Dec. 9, 2024 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Augusta surrounded by his family. Raymond was born on June 14, 1929, the son of Edward Duplessis and Juliette (Dubois) Reinhart.

Raymond grew up in Augusta and attended St. Augustine school. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he was stationed in Boca Chica, Fla. on the submarine “The Runner”. Following his honorable discharge after several years of service, Raymond was employed for over 30 years as a meat cutter and cook’s helper in the kitchen at the VA Togus hospital. He was a dedicated employee and rarely missed a day of work.

Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family; helping Linda with her vegetable stand, winters down in Florida with Carole, and time at camp with Lisa and Diana on the lake were some of his favorite memories. Raymond had a charming personality and especially enjoyed dancing and singing every Saturday night. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 2 and a member of the Calumet Club.

Raymond was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Simone (Compagna) Duplessis; his second wife, Mona Duplessis; and his sister, Lorraine Anderson.

Raymond is survived by his daughters Linda Duplessis and her companion, Larry Whitmore, Carole Tunison and her husband Donald, Lisa Duplessis and her partner Diana Satkunas, Tina Clark and her husband Richard, and Roxanne Knapp; grandchildren, Heather Tunison and her partner Eric Brewer, Noah Michaud, Zack Acord and his wife Beth, Kristyn Maxim and her husband Brandon, Macy Hopkins and her fiancée, Tyler Harvey; Katie Hill and her husband Jason Smith, Christine Hill and his brother-in-law, “Dutchie” Anderson.

Raymond’s family would like to express their gratitude to Beacon Hospice, the staff at the Maine Veteran’s Home for the wonderful care provided to Raymond, as well as his sister-in-law, Yvette Fortin for all her assistance in caring for Raymond.

A period of visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 17 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta, ME 04330. A committal service will follow at 12 p.m. at the chapel of the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta, ME 04330.
