AUGUSTA — Capital Area Technical Center has named its December professionals of the month.
Hannah Kidd of Augusta, a junior at Cony High School, is enrolled in the graphic design and printing program.
Kidd has found a passion for creativity through the program, where she enjoys exploring the possibilities of Photoshop and expanding her artistic skills.
Kidd is a three-season athlete, competing on the volleyball, basketball and track teams. She also plays piano and pursues her passion for photography. Kidd plans to continue her education in graphic design to further develop her talents.
Anthony Rivera of Chelsea, a senior at Gardiner Area High School, has excelled in the Auto Tech program’s hands-on learning environment. His performance earned him an Expanded Learning Opportunity, allowing him to gain real-world experience at 1st Choice Auto Repair. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Rivera tackles tasks such as fixing wheel bearings, replacing tie rods, and changing oil and tires.
Rivera has played varsity basketball since his freshman year.
Rivera’s post-graduation plans include attending Central Maine Community College to pursue an associate degree in auto tech. He aims to become a master technician.
CATC has named Chef Heidi Parent as its Leading the Future educator.
Parent’s journey in culinary arts began at Lewiston Regional Technical Center, where she first discovered her passion for the culinary world. She furthered her education at Southern Maine Community College, receiving an associate’s degree in culinary arts. Parent joined CATC as its culinary arts instructor in 2016.
Parent serves as the SkillsUSA advisor and has mentored teams to compete in the National Restaurant Association’s ProStart competitions, achieving state-level victories and advancing to national competitions.
Parent competed in season 16 of Chef Gordon Ramsay’s renowned television show, “Hell’s Kitchen.”
Beyond technical skills, Parent instills in her students the importance of reliability, a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. She believes that students who embody these qualities are teachable and poised for success in any employment situation.
