APPLETON — A woman was injured Sunday in an accidental fire that started in her wood stove, the Office of Fire Marshal said Tuesday in a news release.
At about 6:49 p.m. Sunday, state fire investigators were asked to respond to 2036 Appleton Ridge Road, where they found a building on fire and a woman who had sustained burns. The woman, who was not named in the release, is still hospitalized in Portland.
The woman had fled to a nearby house to ask for help, the Penobscot Bay Pilot reported, and was transported by ambulance to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport. She was then transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland due to the extent of her injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but initial indications show the fire was likely accidental and began in the house’s wood stove, investigators said.
The Penobscot Bay Pilot reported fire crews from Appleton, Union, Hope, Montville, Washington and Liberty responded to the scene Sunday evening.
