RANGELEY — A night sky snowshoeing gathering is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at the Rangeley Lakes Trail Center with Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust and Northern Stars Planetarium, 524 Saddleback Mountain Road.

John Meader, owner of The Northern Stars Planetarium, will lead the night sky tour. Those who attend can learn about constellations and galaxies.

Participants are encouraged to bring 7×50 binoculars or more significant binoculars.

If the weather doesn’t cooperate, a virtual sky tour will be held at 8 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Dark Skies Rangeley, a community-led effort to conserve the dark skies over the Rangeley Region. Sarah Fredrick, EcoVenture coordinator with the land trust, is the organizer.

Other Night Sky Snowshoe events are scheduled for Feb. 28 and March 21.

The cost is $5 per person; the session is for up to 25 participants. Snowshoes at the center may be reserved in advance for $5.
