RANGELEY — Community planner Donna Larson Kane of LK Planning and the Comprehensive Plan Review Committee presented proposed updates to selectmen Monday and said the goal is to have the Comprehensive Plan ready for the June town meeting.
The last update was Sept. 13, 2012.
Officials looked at chapters on Natural Resources; Historic, Archaeological and Cultural Resources; Regional Coordination Program and Population Characteristics.
Public meetings have been held in Rangeley and Oquossoc village, Kane said. The committee also met with business owners and area communities.
“I’ve talked to a lot of people,” Kane said. “Members of the committee have talked to people and organizations. The intent is to have this be very homegrown. We are getting input from a lot of different places so that we truly identify what is happening in Rangeley, what has happened, where you are at now, and where you want to go in the future.”
She asked selectmen to review the sections as they were presented and provide input, especially on items the committee may not have included. The purpose is to have some familiarity when the final proposed Comprehensive Plan is presented.
Kane requested the board report on the sections presented for review at its next meeting on Jan. 21.
In other matters, the board voted 3-2, in separate motions, to appoint Mark Beauregard and Ethna Thompson to the Budget Committee to fill long-standing vacancies on the seven-member panel. Both submitted applications Dec. 30.
Ethan Shaffer, Samantha White and Keith Savage voted in favor of each motion; Chairman James Jannace and Jacob Beaulieu voted against.
Budget Committee members are elected at the town meeting.
Before the votes, Town Manager Joe Roach said a notice of the vacancies had not been published.
Jannace requested that they be posted.
Reading from the Town Code, Roach said, “In the case of a vacancy, the Board of Selectmen shall appoint a member to serve until the next annual town meeting to finish the unexpired term. I think that is all the guidance you are going to get.”
Afterward, the motions were made and passed. Beauregard and Thompson will serve until June 2028, a term of 3 1/2 years.
