Tyler Abell and Carter Norton helped Mt. Blue bounce back from a slow start and conquer Mountain Valley in a boys basketball contest Friday in Rumford.

The Cougars (7-4) were limited to five points, all by Nolan Leso, and trailed 13-5 after one quarter. In the second, Abell scored seven points and Norton hit a pair of 3-pointers to send the Class A Cougars into the half with a 22-17 lead.

Norton finished with six 3s for 18 points, while Abell hit four treys (three in the fourth) and also scored 18 points. Leso added 12.

Dylan Theriault topped the Class C Falcons (2-9) with nine points, while Tanner Henry and Ben Desalle each chipped in seven.

WINTHROP 52, WAYNFLETE 41: Braden Branagan and Jake Galusha keyed a 21-10 third-quarter run, scoring six points apiece, as the Ramblers (6-5) pulled away from the Flyers (5-6) in Winthrop.

Cole Bard led Winthrop with 17 points and Branagan finished with 12, including three 3-pointers.

The Ramblers led 23-19 at halftime, then extended the margin to 44-29 after three quarters.

Waynflete was paced by JJ Carlo with 15 points and Jed Alsup with 13.

CARRABEC 46, RICHMOND 40: Jackson Newton and Seth Price scored 14 points apiece as the Cobras won in North Anson.

Price hit four 3-poitners. Desmond Robinson added nine points for Carrabec (7-2).

Zander Steele led the Bobcats (5-3) with 20 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
MOUNTAIN VALLEY 37, MT. BLUE 32: Ali Mazza led the charge as the Falcons (5-6) pulled away from the Cougars (1-9) in Farmington.

Mazza scored eight of her 11 points in the third quarter, during which Mountain Valley flipped a two-point deficit to an eight-point advantage, 34-26, heading into the fourth.

Alyvia Theriault made four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 12 for the Falcons.

Mt. Blue’s Kylee Blodgett led all scorers with 13 points. Eight of those came in the second quarter when the Cougars outscored the Falcons 14-7 to take a 20-18 lead into halftime.
