River Arts in Damariscotta plans to kick off the New Year with a winter blockbuster Members’ Show set for Jan. 14-Feb. 22 at its 36 Elm St. gallery.
The public is invited to meet the artists, view their artwork, enjoy lively conversation and light refreshments at the opening reception set for 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.
With artists from across the state of Maine exhibiting work in this show, the display is wide reaching and diverse. Artists have selected pieces that best represent their personal approach. This year’s show presents a bounty of new work from Maine artists capturing the heartbeat of the contemporary Maine art scene. Works on display include paintings, sculpture, pastel, ceramics, original print making, wood, fiber and photography.

In conjunction with the opening in the main gallery “Beyond the Surface” continues in the River Room featuring Holly Anderson Baumm, Jan Corneal, Alice de Mauriac and Heather Greene. “Beyond the Surface” runs through Feb. 6.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
