AUGUSTA — Viles Arboretum, 153 Hospital St., is set to hold its annual Winterfest celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1.
Visitors can explore the arboretum’s trails by foot, snowshoe, or cross-country skis.
Activities include:
• Learning about winter animal tracks and identifying trees during winter.
• Sledding on one of the arboretum’s scenic hills.
• Discovering the history of ice harvesting on the Kennebec River.
• Trying hands-on activities like ice fishing.
There will be a fire to roast marshmallows and sip hot cocoa. The Visitor Center will feature exhibits to view.
Partners for the Winterfest include the Maine Conservation Corps, Augusta Area Adult Education, Pierce’s Ice Products, the Maine State Museum, Old Fort Western, Kennebec Historical Society, Gardiner History Room, Pittston Historical Society and Pownalborough Courthouse.
Admission is free; donations will be accepted to support the arboretum.
Parking for the event will be available at the Park and Ride on Piggery Road. Parking spaces at the arboretum’s main parking lot will be reserved for those needing help with accessibility.
