Wasting no time pretending to have grown up into an adult human being over the last four years, President Trump took to his personal social media platform recently to lambast and denigrate Episcopal Bishop Marianne Edgar Budde, who presided over the inaugural prayer service at the National Cathedral in Washington.
In his own words, “The so-called Bishop … was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater … She was very nasty … and not compelling or smart.” What Marxist, Antifa, woke ideology did Budde preach that so affronted the very stable genius?
“In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now … Have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away … Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land. May God grant us the strength and courage to honor the dignity of every human being, to speak the truth to one another in love and walk humbly with each other and our God for the good of all people … in this nation and the world.”
While President Law and Order busily put 1,600 violent criminals back on the streets with the stroke of a pen, and Assistant President Elon Musk threw around Nazi salutes to the audience at the inauguration after party, the outrage from national figures in the Republican Party was reserved exclusively for a church leader with a message of mercy.
Elections have consequences and the Americans working towards a society built on values like peace, decency, humility, compassion, and generosity lost this election. But we are still here. Bishop Budde’s example should serve as an inspiration to everyone pursuing that vision for a better future, especially as we confront the seemingly insurmountable.
