The Winthrop Maine Historical Society is busy planning for its next calendar, and monthly speakers starting in April. Fundraising and member-only events will be featured in the coming year.
On Jan. 11, 11 society members attended a members-only event, Tea with Priscilla Thoreson, at her home on Main Street at the former McNamara house. Crumpets made by Bev Olson, longtime friend of the society, and cucumber sandwiches made by Thoreson were served at colorful tea party tables, according to a news release from the society.
A history of the eight families who have lived in her home was presented by Thoreson, emphasizing those owners who donned fashionable mustaches. After the tea, she escorted the members through her home. Highlights included the many fireplaces, the root cellar and the beehive oven.
