WASHINGTON — A Newcastle man was killed Sunday in an apparent head-on collision on Route 17, which is also the Augusta Road, according to police.
Joshua Theriault-Patten, 37, died at a hospital from injuries he suffered in the crash, said Capt. Arthur Smith of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
Police received a report at 9:32 p.m. and upon arriving on scene reported two vehicles with heavy front-end damage.
Theriault-Patten was taken by ambulance to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport, where he died.
The other driver, Noah McGrath, 27, of Portland, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and released.
The crash remains under investigation by Knox County Sheriff’s Office, with a reconstruction of the crash handled by Maine State Police.
“It’s still being investigated, by us and Maine State Police reconstruction,” Smith said Wednesday. “The exact cause of the accident, we’re still working on that. We’re working with the District Attorney’s Office, and the reconstruction unit to do a vehicle autopsy and come up with a conclusive answer.”
Smith said no criminal charges have been made.
Union Fire and Rescue, Washington Fire Department, Waldoboro Ambulance responded to assist at the scene. A LifeFlight of Maine helicopter was called but did not transport either of the patients.
