RUMFORD — The Friends of Rumford Public Library is set to host a Wilton author and retired University of Maine professor of creative writing at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, to the Reading Room at 56 Rumford Ave.

Patricia O’Donnell is the author of the novel “The Vigilance of Stars,” which was chosen to be one of two books read statewide in the Maine Humanities Council 2020 Read ME program. Other books include “Waiting to Begin: A Memoir,” novels “A Symmetry of Husbands and Necessary Places,” and “Gods for Sale,” a collection of short Fiction that won the Serena McDonald Kennedy Fiction Award for 2016.
Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Agni Review, The North American Review, Prairie Schooner and other journals and anthologies.
O’Donnell has also taught classes in creative writing at Colby College, the Franklin County Jail, the Maine Women’s Correctional Center, and at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa.
In the event of inclement weather, the reading will be postponed to the following day.
The public event is free, but donations are accepted for the Friends group, which supports special library programing and projects, including this reading.
