Saint Joseph’s fell behind by 20 points in the first half and lost to Redlands, 89-79, in the first round of the NCAA Division III men’s basketball tournament on Friday in Medford, Massachusetts.
The Bulldogs (23-4) scored the first 12 points of the game and led 25-5 less than six minutes in.
The Monks, who won their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship since 2009, finished 24-5.
Lucas Gordon scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Redlands. Omari Ferguson and Dayvon Gates each had 12 points, while Chozen Amadi added 11 points and Kendrick Currey finished with 10 points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Silvano Ismail recorded 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals for St. Joseph’s. Remijo Wani added 19 points, while Wani Donato finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
WPI 81, HUSSON 71: Aiden Callahan and Tim Reidy each scored 27 points and the Engineers (24-3) eliminated the Eagles (21-7) from NCAA Division III tournament in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Scott Lewis had 18 points for the Eagles. Jeremy Moronta (13), Tope Also (12) and Riles Neff (11) were Husson’s other double-digit scorers.
