Drivers should expect a significant detour on Interstate 95 south near Pittsfield on Wednesday, as crews are planning to remove a tractor trailer that rolled over Monday.
The southbound side of the highway is expected to be closed near mile marker 152 in Pittsfield from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, the Maine Department of Transportation said in an announcement.
Motorists heading south will be directed to detour via Exit 157 in Newport, Maine DOT said. The detour route will continue to Route 100 and Somerset Avenue and traffic can get back on the interstate at Exit 150 in Pittsfield.
“Detour routes will be signed, and digital message boards will be active,” Maine DOT said. “We apologize for the inconvenience and ask that motorists drive safely through detours and work zones.”
Maine State Police had responded to the crash near mile marker 152 on Monday, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety. There has been ongoing construction in the area.
“The truck driver stated that he could not see the construction transition well in the dark and fog and went off the roadway to the left causing it to overturn,” Moss wrote in an email.
The driver, whose name was not released, was not injured, Moss wrote.
The truck was left in the median, and it was up to Maine DOT to schedule its removal, according to Moss. Bouchard and Son’s Towing is the company expected to remove the tractor trailer.
