It’s time for Artwalk Gardiner

GARDINER — Artwalk Gardiner organizers plans to celebrate 20 years of art and community from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

Local artists are set to exhibit their works in shops, galleries, artists’ studios, and other venues throughout the historic downtown. In tandem with the event, a special community photography project, Community Faces, will be underway, as well as the donation drop-off for the Annual Gardiner Public Library Plant Sale.

Special guest musician Elliot Gilg will perform.

Check out Samuel Beckett’s ‘Endgame and Act Without Words I’

FARMINGTON — Emery Community Arts Center plans to present “Endgame and Act Without Words I” by Samuel Beckett from Friday-Sunday at the Main Street center. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Nobel Prize- and Obie Prize-winning playwright is most famous for the play “Waiting for Godot.” Endgame explores, through theater of the absurd, a day in the life of a family surviving in a post-apocalyptic world. This tragicomedy will have you riding an emotional roller coaster through dark comedy and poetry.

The play is performed by local community members Tim Berry, Tim Davis, Fred Liebfried, Jenn Beloin and Austin Frederick and is directed by Gavin Pickering.

Swing by the Benton Alewife Festival

BENTON — The Benton Alewife Festival, a celebration of the annual alewife migration and harvest and successful fish elevator program, is planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Riverfront Park, 1279 Clinton Ave.

The free event will take place rain or shine; 207-453-7191.

Maine’s outdoors is the focus of the festival, which will feature exhibitors, demonstrations, tours at the dam, guided trail walks, children’s activities, arts and craft projects, face painting and games, as well as food and live music.

Stephen King Day events are scheduled

HALLOWELL — Stephen King Day, a full day of King-themed events, is set for Saturday  all across the city.

An Animal Kingdom Costumed Pet Parade is set for 9 a.m. at the Hubbard Free Library; bring your pet in their finest finery followed by Overlooked Pages Book Dives from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Every half hour there will be a news King discussion.

Reader’s Theater: The Reach by S. King is set for 2-7 p.m. Gaslight Theater actors will take the stage at City Hall Auditorium; donation accepted.

Grave Secrets Cemetery Tour is planned at 2 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. This event is not recommended for children younger than 13.

Stephen King Pub Trivia will begin at 3 p.m. at Burano’s Wood-Fired Pizza.

The Castle Rock Rising Costume contest is planned at 5:30 p.m. at American Legion Hall, 114 Second St. There is a $20 entry fee. The Granite City Ghost Tour will begin at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. This event is not recommended for children younger than 13.

“Carrie: The Prom” is planned from 8 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Easy Street Lounge. Wear your best “Carrie-” or Stephen King-themed costume for a 21-plus prom night.

Make the drive for a Brunswick concert

BRUNSWICK — House of Hamill is set to take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Unitarian-Universalist Church of Brunswick Maine, 1 Middle St.

The band features Brian Buchanan and Rose Baldino of the Celtic folk-rock band Enter the Haggis. They are both accomplished traditional fiddle players and classical violinists. They write unusual new fiddle tunes and unpredictable original songs while breathing new life into traditional and contemporary songs. A third full-time member, Caroline Browning, recently joined the duo, playing bass, mandolin and vocals. Their music occupies a space between traditional Irish and sophisticated indie folk.

WATERVILLE — An author event featuring Ron Currie Jr. is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Waterville Public Library, 17 Elm St.

Currie will read from his fifth book, published in March 2025: “The Savage, Noble Death of Babs Dionne.”

The library will give away two copies of the book at the event, and books will be available for purchase from Oliver & Friends Bookshop ($29).

Currie was born and raised in Waterville, he is the award-winning author of five novels. As a screenwriter, he worked most recently on the Apple TV+ series “Extrapolations” and has developed projects with AMC Studios, Amblin Television, and ITV America. He lives in Portland and teaches in the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast MFA program.

WATERVILLE — Quarry Road Trails is a year-round outdoor recreation destination for people of all ages and abilities from the greater Waterville area, across Maine and beyond.

The park is located two miles from downtown Waterville. The trails and open spaces provide opportunities for bikingwalking, running, paddling and disc golf.

WATERVILLEMid-Maine Chamber of Commerce’s Business to Business Showcase, is planned for noon-6 p.m. May 21, at Thomas College Harold Alfond Field House, West River Road. 

The showcase features nearly 100 exhibitors, free attendance and parking, food truck and cash bar, as well as a drawing for a $1,000 cash prize. Interviews of booth attendees will be conducted for sharing about their businesses.
