On May 16, around 5:30 p.m., a Maine State Police bloodhound named Millie located a 5-year-old girl with autism who was missing in Palermo off of Rowe Road, according to a social media post by police.
The girl was found waist-deep in water in a cedar swamp but uninjured, police said. The bloodhound tracked the girl’s scent trail from her house into the woods for a third of a mile, leading handler Corporal Eric Sucy and Maine Game Warden Julia Horst to her location.
The Maine State Police praised Millie on their social media account.
“Millie is only 10 months old, yet she’s already proving herself time and again with her dedication, sweet disposition, and incredible nose.”
The dog also helped find a 77-year-old Rockport woman who left her home at night on April 24. The woman suffered from cognitive issues and was found safe, police said.
