Summer in Maine means a bustling schedule of festivals, concerts and other fun events.

This is the time to soak up the sun and store up happy memories before the darker, colder days creep back.

If you love lobster, clams, oysters, blueberries, Moxie, live music, Shakespeare, sailboats, lighthouses or all things Scottish, Maine’s the place to find them all. Here are some of our favorites events happening this summer.

Vigorous Tenderness: A Summer Solstice Concert

Vigorous Tenderness is a quarterly immersive chamber concert experience that amplifies marginalized voices in classical music and makes new and experimental music accessible. Celebrate the summer solstice with a walk around Gambo Preserve while chamber music is performed against this gorgeous landscape. You’ll hear pieces by six composers, including Shruthi Rajasekar and Alexis Lamb. At least 16 musicians will be performing, including Kal Sugatski, Tracey Jasas-Hardel and Michael Albert.

Windjammer Days

June 22-28. Boothbay Harbor. boothbayharborwindjammerdays.org.

Celebrate the 63rd year of Windjammer Days in Boothbay Harbor. Windjammer Days features several events and activities, including the Parade of Sail, Pirates of the Dark Rose, Gathering of the Fleet, Cod Fish Races and Artist’s Alley marketplace. Bring your sea legs and book a ride of one of the awe-inspiring windjammers.

The Maine Oyster Festival

The Maine Oyster Festival is a three-day shindig devoted to Maine’s bivalve. It starts with a Friday night Meet the Farmer kickoff party at the Freeport Oyster Bay. On Saturday and Sunday, L.L. Bean’s Discovery Park will be filled with sea farmers, oyster shucking lessons, mingling with tidepool sea creatures and all sorts of live music. The Oyster of the Year awards ceremony happens at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday features the noontime oyster shucking contest.

‘As You Like It’

July 10-Aug. 2. Deering Oaks Park, Portland, free. fenixtheatre.com.

Fenix Theatre Company takes up residency every summer in Portland’s Deering Oaks Park with a Shakespeare play. This year’s show is the comedy “As You Like It.” Park yourself in a lawn chair or on a blanket and follow Rosalind and her cousin Celia into the Forest of Arden. There they meet a number of curious characters including a sad soul named Jacques, who has a moment with his memorable “all the world’s a stage” monologue.

St. Demetrios Greek Festival

St. Demetrios Greek Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary of serving up homemade Greek food and pastries. Think baklava, gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita and much more. The festival also includes church tours, a Greek bookstore and a traditional Greek market. On Saturday, there will be traditional Greek dance and musical performances.

Moxie Festival

You don’t have to love, or even like, Moxie soda to have a heck of a good time at the annual Moxie Festival. Festivities include the Moxie Day parade, car show, fire works and live music including tributes to Tom Petty, The Eagles and Jimmy Buffet. There’s also a whoopie pie eating and Moxie chugging contest. This year’s theme is “Hang loose — drink Moxie!”

Yarmouth Clam Festival

July 18-20. Downtown Yarmouth. yarmouthclamfestival.com.

The legendary Yarmouth Clam Festival celebrates its 60th year. Highlights of this year’s three-day event includes the the kick-off parade, shucking contest, carnival rides, live music, fine art + craft show, 5-mile road race and a whole lot of clams. Yes, it’s too early to set up your lawn chair on the parade route, but keep an eye on the calendar.

Country superstar Shania Twain is bringing her cache of hits to Bangor for a show during the heart of the summer. Imagine the singalong that will happen during “You’re Still The One.” Picture yourself freaking out when Twain utters those three magic words, “Let’s go, girls!” as she and the band launch into “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” And imagine the bliss when Twain sings “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”

Ossipee Valley Music Festival

July 24-27. Ossipee Valley Fairgrounds, Hiram, $40-$220 (multi-day passes available), free for under 18. ossipeevalley.com.

If you love roots, Americana and bluegrass music, set your sites on the Ossipee Valley Music Festival. The annual gathering features camping, workshops, food trucks, yoga, craft beer, kids activities and best of all, live music on five stages. This year’s lineup includes The California Honeydrops, Sierra Hull, Shadowgrass, Tommy Emmanuel, Rainbow Girls, Samuel Nalangira and Tricky Britches, among many other national, regional and local acts.

Maine Lobster Festival

July 30-Aug. 3. Harbor Park, Rockland. mainelobsterfestival.com.

The Maine Lobster Festival has been happening since 1947, and is run entirely by volunteers. Highlights include cooking contests, entertainment, family-friendly activities and a Maine artists, crafts and makers marketplace. It’s also a perfect opportunity to eat an obscene amount of lobster, so get cracking.

Guster on the Ocean

Aug. 8-10. State Theatre and Thompson’s Point Portland, $50-$160, $20-$50 kids. statetheatreportland.com.

This is the seventh year for rock band Guster’s multi-day festival in Portland. Guster on the Ocean starts at the State Theater with the band’s Hits & Bits show, then moves to Thompson Point for the rest of the weekend. The Saturday and Sunday outdoor concerts include special guests Hanson, The Mountain Goats, Fruit Bats, Joy Oladokun, Karina Rykman, Maggie Rose, Joe & Marc Pisapia, Bailen and Sam Champion.

Wild Blueberry Festival

Aug. 15 – 17. Downtown Machias. machiasblueberry.com.

The tiny blue orb is synonymous with Maine. You can get your fill of them during the annual Wild Blueberry Festival in Machias. Events and activities include a kids parade, craft fair, live music, book sale, theatrical performance, pancake breakfast, road race, pie eating contest and much more.

Maine Highland Games and Scottish Festival

Aug. 16 & 17. Windsor Fairgrounds, 82 Ridge Road, Windsor. mainehighlandgames.org.

The Maine Highland Games and Scottish Festival celebrates its 46th year in the new location of the Windsor Fairgrounds. The robust schedule of activities and events include the Scottish Heavy Athletics Men’s World Championship, sheep herding, solo piping competitions, stone lifting, border collie agility, armored fighters, food vendors, kilt making demos, pipes & drums and much more. Plan on hitting the merchandise area because this year’s offerings, including an impressive array of posters and apparel, are visually stunning. You can also tuck in at the Three Robbers Pub and the Clan Village.

Maine Open Lighthouse Day

Maine Open Lighthouse Day is when the United States Coast Guard, the Maine Office of Tourism and the American Lighthouse Foundation offer access to  several Maine lighthouses. Maine Open Lighthouse Day includes the chance to tour several of them. At some of the lighthouses, you’ll be able to ascend the stairs to the top and check out the lens up close while also enjoying great views.
