FAIRFIELD — A 42-year-old Gray man died in a motorcycle crash Friday night that remains under investigation, according to Fairfield police.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, Fairfield police responded to the 200 block of Middle Road, a portion of Route 104, for the reported crash, Chief Thomas Gould said in a statement Monday.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered that a motorcycle traveling southbound on Middle Road had failed to negotiate a curve and subsequently struck a telephone pole,” Gould said.

The operator, later identified as Travis Clark, was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Gould.

The crash remains under investigation, but police believe initially that speed was a contributing factor.

Fairfield police Officer Joseph Kibbie is investigating the crash, with assistance from Sgt. Matthew Wilcox and Capt. Paul St. Amand.

The Fairfield and Benton Fire-Rescue Department also responded to the crash, Gould said.
