Jared Thomas capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the 11th inning with an RBI single, lifting the Hartford Yard Goats to a 9-8 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game Wednesday night in Hartford, Connecticut.
The Sea Dogs held a 5-1 lead in the ninth inning and were one out from victory before Hartford forced extra innings with a stunning rally.
Both teams scored once in the 10th, then Portland moved ahead 8-6 in the 11th. Drew Ehrhard’s squeeze bunt drove in the go-ahead run, and Ronaldo Hernandez followed with an RBI single.
Sea Dogs reliever Zach Bryant retired the first two batters in the bottom of the 11th but then issued back-to-back walks that loaded the bases. Cole Carrigg tied the game with a two-run single, setting the stage for the winning hit by Thomas.
Portland finished with 14 hits, including four by Allan Castro, who had three doubles and scored twice. Ehrhard collected three hits and Brooks Brannon hit a two-run homer.
Sea Dogs starting pitcher Dalton Rogers struck out nine, walked two and allowed three hits and one run through six innings.
