The Erie SeaWolves scored seven runs in the first inning off Blake Wehunt and rolled to a 10-1 victory Friday night against the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game at Hadlock Field.
With Somerset winning at home, Portland fell 3 1/2 games behind with eight games remaining in the chase for the final playoff spot in the Northeast Division.
Mark Clark and Kevin McGonigle cracked home runs for the SeaWolves in the first inning. The Sea Dogs’ run came on Allan Castro’s double to center in the third.
The Sea Dogs will play Saturday and Sunday at home before concluding the season with six games at Binghamton, beginning Tuesday night.
