
Connelly Early, who made 15 starts for the Portland Sea Dogs this season, was named to the Eastern League All-Star team on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old left-handed pitcher went 7-2 with a 2.51 ERA in 71 2/3 innings before he was promoted to Triple-A Worcester. He struck out 96 and walked 29. He was one of four starting pitchers named to the 16-player team.
Early was promoted to Worcester on July 29 and pitched six games for the WooSox before being called up to the Boston Red Sox on Sept. 9. In three starts with Boston, Early is 1-1 with a 1.88 ERA. He has struck out 22 and walked three in 14 1/3 innings.
Early matched a franchise record with 11 strikeouts in his major-league debut against the Athletics.
