Five boys soccer teams will soon hoist Gold Balls. Will defending state champs defend the crown? Will a surprise team emerge and pull off an upset or two? These questions, and more, will be answered in the coming weeks.
Here are 11 players we believe will impact the boys soccer playoffs.

Connor Skillin, Greely junior forward: After scoring 18 goals for the defending Class B champions last year, Skillin is once again leading the offense for the Rangers (12-2), who enter the B South playoffs as the No. 2 seed.
Connor Middleton, Camden Hills junior midfielder: There’s several contributors for the defending Class A champions, including goalkeeper Brian Leonard and sophomore forward Soren Johnson. But Middleton has helped control the midfield all season for the Windjammers (11-1-2), particularly in their two games – a win and a tie – against fellow A North contender Lewiston.
Finn Coburn, Scarborough senior fullback: The Red Storm (14-0), the defending regional champions and No. 1 seed in Class A South, have found plenty of success on both sides of the pitch. Coburn helps set the tone as Scarborough makes another run at reaching the state final.

Will Diamond-Stanic, Lewiston senior goalkeeper: Diamond-Stanic is a leader on the field for Lewiston (9-1-4), the No. 2 seed in A North. Not only does he run the defense from his goalie position, but he’s also one of the emotional leaders for the Blue Devils, highlighted by his howling during player introductions.
Simon Wissink, Falmouth junior forward: Wissink led the Navigators in scoring last season and is having another standout season. His unselfish play and ability to share the ball, particularly with senior forward Charlie Creswell, makes him dangerous. The payoff has been a 12-2 regular season and the No. 2 seed in the Class A South playoffs.
Karter Eldridge, Hall-Dale junior forward: Eldridge already has shown a flair for the dramatic, with a game-winning goal last year in the Class C championship game. Eldridge has helped lead a younger Bulldogs squad, and the group will enter the Class C South playoffs as the top seed with an 11-1-2 record.
Brennan Mitchell, Mt. Abram junior defender: Killian Pillsbury is the offensive leader for the Roadrunners (9-3-2), but Mitchell has done an excellent job setting his teammates up for success with his passing while stabilizing the defense.
Tanner Oathout, Mount View senior forward: Oathout scored 44 goals for the Mustangs last season, the third-highest single-season total in state history. This fall, he was named the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B Player of the Year for the second straight season, leading Mount View to an 11-2-1 record and the No. 2 seed in Class C North.
Liam Rapoza, Brunswick junior midfielder: Oliver Gorchoff has also enjoyed a successful fall for the Dragons (11-2-1), the No. 3 seed in Class A North, but Rapoza is an asset in the midfield, finding his teammates for scoring opportunities.
Zane Foyt (sophomore forward) and Rory Foyt (senior midfielder), Monmouth Academy: The Mustangs (12-1-1) have put up some big offensive numbers in Class D South, and the Foyts have done plenty of damage. Monmouth enters the playoffs as the No. 1 seed.
