Soren Hummell completed 13 of 21 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns as Bowdoin beat Bates, 17-9, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference college football game on Saturday in Brunswick.
Bowdoin (2-6) struck early in the second quarter with Hummell finding Ty Connolly on a 48-yard touchdown pass. Hummell followed that with a 32-yard scoring strike to Jude Baker and the Polar Bears led 14-0 at the break. Caden Perry’s 30-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter extended the lead for Bowdoin.
Bates (2-6) put together a 13-play, 61-yard drive that took 7:06 off the clock in the first quarter, but came up empty when Marcos Ruiz missed a 36-yard field goal. Jeff Vidou’s 22-yard touchdown run with 4:42 left in regulation put Bates on the scoreboard, and Ruiz added a 24-yard field goal with 1:07 left, but Bowdoin recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.
COLBY 33, TUFTS 6: Antone Moreis rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Mules (5-3) past the Jumbos (4-4) in a NESCAC game at Medford Massachusetts.
Moreis scored on runs of 44 and 84 yards, and Avi Gotshalk kicked two field goals as Colby took a 19-0 lead in the first half.
Tufts pulled within 19-6 in Christian Shapiro’s 2-yard rush in the third quarter. Moreis then caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Sean Trinder early in the fourth.
UNE 58, NICHOLS 34: Damien Jones scored on a 68-yard run on the Nor’easters first offensive play, Gavin Martin scored on a 53-yard run on their second play, and the University of New England rolled to a win over Nichols at Biddeford.
Martin, who finished with 168 yards on eight carries, also scored from 10 and 20 yards as UNE (7-1, 4-1 Conference of New England) opened a 38-12 lead by halftime.
For the Bison (2-6, 2-3), Jack Morvan caught scoring passes of 65 and 20 yards, and finished with 14 receptions for 232 yards.
CURRY 40, HUSSON 21: Montie Quinn rushed for 57 yards on 29 carries and scored three touchdowns as Curry beat Husson in Bangor.
The Colonels (7-1, 5-0 CNE) opened a 10-0 lead before Max Clark connected with Mari Montgomery on a 13-yard touchdown pass to pull Husson (2-6, 1-4) to within three at 10-7. Curry extended its lead to 17-7 at the half.
Clark threw two TDs in the third quarter – a 1-yarder to Caleb Solomon and a 39-yarder to Cam Holmes – that sandwiched a 71-yard scoring run by Quinn and Curry took a 24-21 lead into the fourth quarter. The Colonels held a 16-0 scoring edge in the final quarter to seal with win.
ENDICOTT 69, MAINE MARITIME 7: Endicott jumped out to a 28-point lead with 3:16 left in the first quarter and rolled to a win over Maine Maritime Academy at Beverly, Massachusetts.
The Gulls (7-1, 5-0 CNE) finished with 425 total yards to MMA’s 98.
For the Mariners (0-8, 0-5), Auston Harris scored on a 31-yard run in the third quarter.
