The Boston Red Sox made a series of roster moves Tuesday while setting their 40-man roster in preparation for the Rule 5 draft, including three minor trades involving relief pitchers.
The Red Sox cleared space on the roster by trading left-handers Brennan Bernardino to the Colorado Rockies and Chris Murphy to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor leaguers.
Boston also acquired utility infielder Tristan Gray from the Tampa Bay Rays for right-hander Luis Guerrero and waived two players — first baseman Nathaniel Lowe and right-handed pitcher Josh Winckowski.
Gray, 29, has played parts of three seasons in the majors with the Rays, Athletics and Marlins.
He played all four infield positions for Tampa Bay in 2025 and hit .231 with a .693 OPS in 30 games.
Guerrero pitched 17 1/3 innings for the Red Sox in 2025, with a 4.15 ERA. Winckowski had a 5.40 ERA in 11 2/3 innings, and Lowe had a .790 OPS in 34 games for Boston after he was released by the Nationals.
Left-hander Shane Drohan and right-handers David Sandlin and Tyler Uberstine were added to the 40-man roster as Boston elected to protect them from the Rule 5 draft.
