Brannon McManus and Grant Loven scored empty-net goals in the final two minutes, offsetting a late goal by Maine’s Robert Cronin as the Adirondack Thunder continued their dominance of the Mariners with a 4-2 ECHL victory Saturday night at Cross Insurance Arena.
It was Adirondack’s sixth straight win over the Mariners, including all five meetings so far this season. The Thunder defeated Maine in New York on Wednesday and at Cross Insurance Arena on Friday.
Tyler Brennan made 36 saves for Adirondack, which also got goals from Matt Salhany in the first period and Tyson Fawcett in the second.
Phil Beaulieu cut Maine’s deficit to 2-1 just over a minute after Fawcett’s goal, scoring his first goal for the Mariners. McManus made it 3-1 with 1:11 remaining. Cronin answered 26 seconds later, but another empty-netter by Loven clinched the victory.
Maine will try to snap its six-game losing streak at home Sunday afternoon against Trois-Rivières.
