Hayden Gray made a step-back 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining as the Maine Celtics withstood a fierce comeback to hold off the College Park Skyhawks for a 121-115 victory in an NBA G League game Wednesday night in Maryland.
The Celtics (8-5) led 98-78 before the Skyhawks, led by Asa Newell with 29 points, staged a rally that brought them within 115-113 with 53 seconds to play. Jalen Bridges then missed a 3-pointer for Maine, but Newell came up with the rebound and responded with a 3-pointer before free throws put it away.
Maine was without three starters who were with the Boston Celtics for their home game against the Indiana Pacers.
Gray and Stefan Todorovic had 23 points apiece for Maine, which had all eight available players score in double figures. Gray also had 11 assists, eight rebounds and eight steals. Tosan Evbuomwan just missed a triple-double, finishing with 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
