I am so grateful for the recent on-the-ground reporting, bringing attention to the stories of what is really happening in the lives of our immigrant neighbors — all so powerful, such clear and factual truth-telling.
I was especially impacted by the reporting on Hassane and Nene Barry. As a white woman, who worked in Portland in the immigrant community, I have been so enriched by the amazing individuals and families I know, who came here to get away from everything they are facing once again in our state, our country. No one deserves a boot on their neck.
The courage and the voices of the reporters and the individuals bravely being interviewed give me hope that new eyes will be opened, new realizations of the reality of what is happening around us. I implore more people to join in standing together to reject hate, reject the tyranny of this administration and embrace the right for all to live in peace in pursuit of a joyful life.
Thank you so much.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
