Somerset County deputies arrested a man Wednesday night in Tomhegan Township after he threatened a “shootout” with police and triggered a standoff that drew the assistance of a tactical police team, the sheriff said.
Scott Morse, 41, of Tomhegan, was arrested without incident around 8 p.m., Sheriff Dale Lancaster said in a statement Thursday.
Tomhegan is a remote unorganized territory on the north side of Moosehead Lake, near Rockwood.
Morse is charged with domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon namely a firearm; domestic violence terrorizing; and seven counts of criminal threatening, all of which were alleged to have occurred over the 24 hours prior to the arrest, Lancaster said.
Deputy Marcus Ramirez, with the assistance of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office detective division, obtained warrants for Morse’s arrest during that time, Lancaster said.
The Maine State Police tactical team executed the warrant at Morse’s residence in Tomhegan based on Morse’s statements to family members “indicating he was not going to be taken into custody without a shootout with the police,” Lancaster said.
As of Thursday, Morse was being held without bail at Somerset County Jail in Madison. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday in Skowhegan, when bail would be reviewed and an attorney would be appointed, if necessary.
The district attorney’s office is expected to review the case, Lancaster said.
