Caleb Crawford scored 21 points, TJ Biel and Mekhi Gray each added 17, and Maine held off a second-half comeback bid by Vermont to secure a 76-70 win in an America East men’s basketball game Thursday night in Orono.
Maine (6-18, 4-5 America East), which snapped a 30-game losing against Vermont in last year’s America East semifinals, led by 20 points early in the second half before the Catamounts (14-10, 6-3) started to chip away. But the Black Bears stayed in front despite having two players — Logan Carey and Ace Flagg — foul out.
TJ Hurley scored 21 of his 27 points in the second half for Vermont.
