A vehicle crash in the parking lot of a gas station in Waterville left one person dead on Sunday.
At approximately 11:20 a.m. on Feb. 22, crews from the Waterville Police Department and Waterville Fire-Rescue responded to a crash in the parking lot of the Big Apple convenience store on Main Street, which also has a Citgo gas station, according to a release Waterville police shared on social media.
According to police, the initial investigation indicates that a vehicle going east on Main Street left the road and struck a vehicle parked at the gas pump. A pedestrian in the parking lot was also struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
Waterville police said the names of the individuals involved are not being released at this time until necessary next of kin are notified.
Waterville police are still investigating the incident. Maine State Police assisted on scene to reconstruct the crash.
Waterville city officials announced on social media around 1:15 p.m. on Sunday that Main Street is closed between Waterville Commons Drive and Armory Road as Waterville police manage the crash. Officials suggested using Interstate 95 to bypass the closure, or taking Kennedy Memorial Drive or College Avenue for more local destinations.
